Omg

If any of you read my "Hi" post, you may have remembered me talking about seeing an orange Mach 1 the other day that rekindled my love for this car...

Well, look what happened to it.

Oh no, not another!

Did you buy it and wreck it, or was that someone else?

If it was you, then I feel awful for you. If not, there's other orange machs out there.

If it was you, tell us what happened.

No, I don't have one... yet. It belongs to some local high school girl.

From what I gather, she was attempting to do a nice long rolling burnout and just lost it into the tree. The guy who took the pix saw it happen and says there were marks on the road, they just didn't show up in the pictures.

Another case of high performance car, low performance driver.

High school driver+mach1=wreck almost every time.

To you high-schoolers . . .
No offense intended, just an observation.
If daddy buys you a performance car, do yourself a favor and at least take it to a large parking lot and see what it does.

I don't blame the girl in this case. It's the parent’s fault for buying her a car that's way out of her league, then compounding the issue by neglecting to teach her how to drive it.

They’re lucky their daughter is alive.

wow...the hood split . Man that really angers me. A Comp. Orange Mach 1.......sooooo good.....destroyed by a terrible driver. I REALLY think that drivers-ed should be mandatory everywhere and it should be mandatory that people learn how to properly drive a stick and the license tests need to be WAY more difficult. I didn't have to take drivers ed and my test was a joke. I've taken a few classes at Mid-Ohio raceway so I think I'm ok :HOPPY: . I guess the real ones to blame would be the girls parents for giving her a car like that.

Heh... I didn't take driver's ed... Classes were full when I moved from Michigan to Kansas between freshman and sophomore years of high school.

Dad taught me how to drive in their old Aerostar and then took me to the high school parking lot to teach me how to drive my mom's '90 325i 5-speed about 10 years ago.

Only time I hit a tree was when I was about 3 years old and put Dad's Econoline in neutral on our sloped driveway while I was playing like I was driving. Rolled down the driveway and into a neighbor's tree.

I agree that everyone needs to learn to drive well. But mandatory driver's ed isn't necessarily the ONLY solution. I'm proof of that.

actually it was grandpa. It was her fault for showing off and not having any respect for it. Daddy should have taught her a little better though

I agree 100%. How utterly ungrateful.

Another reason I had a 4 cylinder, then a 6 cylinder, and finally a V8

I see the tire marks in the first pic curving into the tree.
Very pathetic...

I hope the girl is okay, but the parents should be charged!! I know that doesn't sound realistic, but parents are getting in trouble every day for child endangerment....I'll bet if some enterprising district attorney was on the ball, he/she could make that charge stick and teach the parents a lesson, although I'm sure they've learned one already. Absolutely pathetic to allow a teen in high school to drive ANY high performance automobile!

I don't know if I fully agree that a young person should not get to enjoy a high performance car. The parents should definitely teach them the ins and outs of how the vehicle performs in all conditions. I think there decision to give a car like the Mach to a 17 year old should be made by how responsible the kid is. Out of control kid = out of control Mach=...well you saw the pics. My father taught me to drive at 13 years old...and it was a stick. Been driving performance cars since I got my license at 17. So far so good.

Talk about bad luck, there's only TWO trees in the first picture, and she hit one of them. OUCH!

Of course all teenagers are NOT created equal Some people are also more "talented" drivers than others period...quicker reflexes, etc. However, for the most part we all improve with experience. Each accident we avoid teaches us more about the road and our vehicle. So I would guess in MOST cases it is indeed a better and safer choice to drive a non-performance oriented car for the first few years of one's driving career:THUMBSUP:

Any car can be dangerous if abused. This has less to do with her driving a mach and more to do with showing off, and it wouldn't matter what she drove. You can flip a SUV. A compact car could've been crushed like pop can on that tree.

I think they should make the legal age to get you drivers lisence 18. You should also be required to do a ride along on an extrication rig. That may slow them down.

I hate seeing things like this. I hope she was alright. But once again people need to use common sense. I don't believe a new driver should ever own a car like this.
