G-Tech Pro Competition

I was looking through my Latemodel Restoration Supply catalog (99-04 edition) and they have this thing that measures everything.
Reaction Time
60ft time
330 ft time
0-60
1/8 mile
e.t/mph
1000 ft time
1/4 mile e.t/ mph
hp
torque
rpm
braking distance
handling g's
accelerating and braking g's
rpm vs time
speed vs time
speed vs distance
g's vs time

It does all that and has software for your computer and its 250.00. It's a lot cheaper than going to a dyno. Does anyone have this and how do you like it.

I have the same unit. You have to read through the instruction manual to fully understand how to set it up. It is quite accurate in its measurements and can aid you in perfecting your launching technique. My advice is to work with it while driving in an open area becasue you tend to take your eyes off the road to check your readouts. Good luck.

The Competition can be upgraded via firmware to be similar to the new RR (road race) model.

Latemodel Restoration Supply actually has the new ones in now; I don't think they even have the Competition any more. You can get either the RR or the SS, which is for Drag Racing. You also can store your info so you don't have to look at it while you are driving at a high rate of speed.

Bonus for Mach owners: You can actually dyno-test your shaker since the runs are made while the car is moving.

Got the G-Tech "Pro" (I believe it was called) on e-bay for $44 plus ship, is this a similar model? I no longer have it, gave it to a friend before ever using it because I got a Tazzo VpC which measures elapsed time (and thus very accurate HP readings) while remaining in one gear so you eliminate all the variables such as launch, shifting, etc., which can skew readings.

I just got the RR model and it seems pretty cool. I havnt had much time to mess with it yet.

This thing will get me into trouble. I hope that the cops cant take my gtech and use it against me in court.

I also have a Tazzo unit and compared it at the strip. I made three runs at a local 1/8-mile track with the unit in place and the times were within .01 to .03 on each run while the mph was 1.5 to 2 mph high.

These units are very close to the actual numbers when tested at the strip. It's a very good "tuning tool". I had a G-Tech Pro before for about three years and it was off .10 to .25 through the quarter and about 5 to 7mph off (high) at the strip when I tested it against the track's timers.

My friend has one of the older G-Tech Timers. Its pretty acturate if you put in your cars weight and estimate HP

I have an older g-tech-pro and the ET times are right on to the 1/100 second.

The MPH reading is about 4-5 MPH higher then the track time because it records the actual speed at the end of the track. The drag strips average the speed over the last so many feet of the track, so that's why the g-tech reads higher. Technically it is correct, but all tracks including car magazines average the speed at the end of the track so it is really lower then the actual.
