what mufflers do you have welded in?

Just wondering for those that chose the route of just welding in mufflers which muffler you went with.

Stainless series 40 Flowmasters 2 and 1/4 inch inlet and outlet welded into the stock pipes. Retains virtually all the under 2000 rpm torque yet gives a nice torque boost over 3500 rpm.

I hated the sound when I had them installed. After 1000 miles they smoothed out and got mellower. Now I love em.

300 bucks to cut out the stockers and weld in the new ones. Close examination and you would swear they came from the factory on the car.

I have 2.25" Magnaflow; Sound like stock except at WOT. $120 shipped from Performance Peddler + $30 install -- not a hot rod sound at all.

3 Things I can think of...

1 because your using an x-pipe.

2 because your using a pipe with no cats.

3 because your using the stainless flows vs. aluminum - Which have a coating on them that allows less resonance in the chamber.

Dont worry. Time and miles will smooth it out. Once they carbon up a bit the hollow tinny sound goes bye bye.

MAC Flowpath. Think they sound great. Like flowmaster 40's but just a little different.

I made my exhaust, but found a good deal on magnaflow stainless pipes and bought some MAC stainless Flowpaths. MAC mufflers fit right in pretty much, had a incredible sounding full stainless system for under 200 bucks! Stainless mufflers will have a higher pitch than aluminized due to the different materials. The MAC stainless sound killer compared to the regular flowpaths.

I had Full Boar mufflers welded-in on my 2001 Cobra. You can hear it on www.mustangexhaust.com. I loved the sound, but it droned. The Magnaflows I have now don't drone, but they don't sound as good either

Is that considered a good thing or a bad thing? I always liked that sound.

Dynomax Race Bullets. There was an article a few years back in either MM&FF or 5.0 Mustang magazine where an 01 cobra picked up 17 rwhp. I remembered the article and had them installed on my 03 cobra and was very pleased with the sound and power.

2002bolt, I currently have the mac pro dumps installed on my mach. I had initially intended to install the mac o/r x-pipe with the dumps. However, when I went to install the o/r x-pipe I ran into clearance problems (x-pipe was hitting my d/s safety loop). I can tell you I did have the dynomax race bullets installed on my 03 cobra in place of the stock mufflers and they kicked butt!!! If you decide to go this route, you will need to have four reducers made (2 1/2" down to 2 1/4") to to mate the race bullets with the stock exhaust piping, as the inlet/outlet on the bullets are 2 1/2" in diameter. You can go to www.mustangexhaust.com and listen to the race bullets installed on a 4.6L cobra to get an idea of what they will sound like. Good luck:THUMBSUP:

I hope that $300 INCLUDED the new mufflers! I bought two Flows from Summit Racing for $70 each and had a muffler shop weld them both in for $60.
