Infiniti G35 or Nissan Skyline GT350?

I have been seeing more and more Infiniti G35s dressed up as Skylines here in L.A.

What do you guys think? Are these guys any better then the posers who re-badge Mustang GTs into Cobras or those that paste 'GT-R' on whatever car they own?

No, they all are badge impersonators IMO. To me it doesn't matter what make or model

Re: Infiniti G35 or Nissan Skyline GT350?

Funny that this should get posted today. I was driving this morning and being tailed by a Nissan 350Z sporting NISMO stickers...everywhere! Including a hood stripe shouting pretty much the same. Needless to say it looked pretty much stock otherwise. I'd say POSEUR! It might have even looked presentable if it had been washed...in the last year or so...

Re: Infiniti G35 or Nissan Skyline GT350?

I'd say that the guys trying to turn a G35 into a Skyline are 'wannabees', as the Skyline isn't available in the states. Correct me if I'm wrong here. I've never seen a Skyline for sale at a US Nissan dealership.

The guys turning a Mustang GT into a Mach or Cobras are 'couldhavebeens', as they had the availability but didn't get the real ride.

I don't think it's quite as bad as a mis-labeled mustang. Skyline's can't be imported right, so 99.9% of the Skylines you would see you know right off the bat it's a poser. I think it has less sting...but that's just me.

There are no Skylines in produciton as of right now. The concept of the next gen Skyline has been making the autoshow rounds this year. The mules that have been running the hardware for the next gen car have been heavily modded G35 coupes. There is a firm on the west coast that has been importing real Skylines for a number of years, so you could very well see one on the roads in Cali, or really anywhere else for that matter. There is rumored to have been one in New Orleans. These cars run the gamut of stock to 600+hp monsters from what I've read. They've been featured in a number of publications. The next one is scheduled to find its way to these shores to appease the PlayStation crowd who know about cars they would never otherwise see if it weren't for the video game industry.

Dream Car Garage had one on their show that was around 1000 horsepower.

Re: Infiniti G35 or Nissan Skyline GT350?

I like the 350Z/G35's. they are nice cars for what they are....sporty commuter cars. 240 horses is not a lot for that little car. I believe it should have more ummmph. I perfer my Mach. It looks better, runs better, and is less $$$$.

The 350Z is now rated at 300hp (they started at 287 when they first came out). The big difference as compared to the Mach is in the torque department (was 274ft-lb, now at 260). The G35 coupe is close to that.

I was seriously comparing the 350Z and the Mach and came close to the getting 350Z (I previously owned a 1990 300ZX). The 350Z Enthusiast model was priced less than the Mach when they were first released. In addition to the independent suspension set-up front and rear, the car has a carbon fiber driveshaft!

The handling precision is definitely more refined than the old workhorse FOX-4 chassis. The front suspension is a very sophisticated design (Nissan has several patents on some of the components). However, it is so sophisticated, that depending on how you drive it, the front tires can wear out FAST. There were a lot of people who had 350Zs that sounded like pickup trucks with the tire roar the resulted from the wear. That problem persisted over at least 2 model years, and the fix was to re-design the tire.

I am glad I got the Mach. However, if I had lots of funds, a Daytona Blue 350Z would be in the garage.

They have come a ways since I forst looked into them. Thanks, Tony! But as you said, I'm glad I got the Mach. For a DD, the 350Z would be nice, but the Mach just has that "fun factor!"

The thing that scares me, is that all you guys even know about these things. I wouldn't care if its a skyline, a shoreline or a waistline. Rice is rice........Why even look at it. If it is not American. I don't give it a second glance or waste a single brain cell on it.

"Rice", as I understand it, is generally applied to cars, primary Asian, that have been garishly modified in appearance without the performance muscle. Of course, others may differ in their understanding.

The 350Z is a muscular Japanese vehicle. It has heritage, just like the Mustang. In my view, it is always good to know the competition, even if you don't like them.

The Skyline is a killer performance car. When a new version arrives, it will be powerful. However, it most likely will be priced much higher than even the GT500.

Know your competition

I like them both. Each has a different character. I do think the next G35 coupe, which is making the auto show rounds now as a concept Infiniti coupe looks nice.
