Re: mustang vs camaro

because the 4.6 is doing just fine? ford completely stopped producing the 351 a long time ago and it would take more than a horsepower battle to make them bring it back. the modular motors are better for street cars anyway. they are more efficient and they make pretty good horsepower(look at the cobra, GT500, even the mach 1). they have no reason to want or need to switch back to older technology.

its not a 350 its a 346

why go bigger when the current does the job

4.6>LS1 ..... end of story

Re: mustang vs camaro

I wouldn't mind seeing something in between the 4.6 and the 5.4. A 3.75 stroke makes our 281's into 296's that be nice add a little more agressive cams and we can still have the decent low end of the mach and put out around 350 fwhp. As for the 5.4 it can easily be made into good compition for the LS2 the Boss 290's (5.4 Aussie) had about 385/385 with a compression ratio in the high 9's. If the compression was increased to 10.9 like it is in the LS2 that would easliy make up for the 15hp. Or just go with the Ford GT style heads over the 03/04 dohc castings that would easly make 400hp and i'd say closer to 425 torque.

Re: mustang vs camaro

The new mulletaro was getting the LS2 last time I checked.

The Challenger >>>> Camaro

The Mustang >>>> Camaro

The GTO = Camaro

I've been hoping for a long time that the mustang will get a 6.2 hurricane. Just thinking about it gives me chills.

Re: mustang vs camaro

I saw one report that the Hurricane engine might be going into the Boss 302 edition...?? sure hope so, that would be historic!

Prices don't look bad in the catalog so maybe one will find it's way into my 94GT!!!

Re: mustang vs camaro

1. Ford ~350hp 5.0L will debut in 08/09 Boss Mustang.
2. Detuned 5.0 (330hp?) will become std on 09 Mustang GT, replacing 4.6.
3. ~390hp LS2 will be available in 09 Camaro.
4. SRT Challenger will have 6.1 hemi with 425 hp.

Weight is the enemy for Camaro & Challenger. Should make for interesting drag races. No contest in the sales race, as usual, sub-$30k Mustang GT will again easily outsell the Camaro SS ($40k) and SRT Challenger ($40K+).

I wish the rest of Ford's future was as bright as the Mustang's.

Re: mustang vs camaro

Not to drag down the IQ of this thread but...can someone fill me in on the Hurricane Engine project. BTW as a 20y/o I can truly say Id like to see a resurection of the "pony wars". I do think if things dont change though, the mustang is going to be on the bottom end of the horsepower curve, but hopefully they can keep the pony lean, and used the weight advantage to help it against the competition.

Re: mustang vs camaro

the only reason i don't really want a pony war is i don't think ford could keep up financially.

Re: mustang vs camaro

Another thing to remember... the first pony wars also stirred up the legislators against us & the insurance companies killed us! Expect the same thing again, extreme high insurance rates, & killer laws against performance cars, surcharges etc.... enjoy it while you can, big brother is watching.

The hurricane project was development of a large displacement pushrod engine for Ford trucks, between 5.8 and 6.2 liters (most sources said 6.2). The project was dumped a few years ago basically because Ford was having finical problems. Rumor is the project has been restarted again not really "hurricane" anymore but still striving for the same end a large pushrod motor. Hope that helps a little bit. We are all just hoping that these new engines could find their way into a stang.
