If you haven't checked your spare tire in your Mach 1 yet...
Take a look to make sure it's OK. I had a flat tire this weekend and when I pulled out the spare, it was completely deflated.
Luckily I have AAA, so I had our Mach 1 flatbedded to Goodyear. Afterwards, I noticed two puncture marks on the back side of the tire. Upon checking the bottom of the trunk, I noticed two rivets sticking through which match the holes in the spare perfectly (see the attached picture for details). Evidently the spare tire was already in the trunk when the rivets were applied. Hopefully this is an isolated occurrence and no one else has this problem. Ron

Picture of trunk with rivets attached
Here's a picture of the trunk which shows the two rivets.

Checked mine, spare was OK. No rivets sticking up through the trunk floor like your picture shows. Someone must of skipped a step on yours.
Thanks for the heads-up, no fun finding the spare is flat when you need it.

Thanks for the information. I will check it out as soon as it stops raining.
Great Photo's Ford should make the spare good but that does no good when you need a spare and the spare is flat.

It's good that you have AAA, but doesn't the Ford Roadside Assistance cover such mishaps? I know it did on my wife's Focus when the fuel pump went out and on my Ranger when the chip in the key failed. They came out and towed both times. I guess I better check to be sure the Machs have the same coverage. Thanks for the heads up. |

ronbo,
Thanks for taking the time to take those pictures and posting them, nice job. What the heck were those rivest doing there anyways? Someone playing with the rivet gun? I'ld call the CAC, file a formal complaint and ask for an explanation. |

Thank you Ron, for making the time to post this information! Thanks to you, others won't have to find that their spare was flat when they really need it, like your experience.
I will check my spare today.

It's information like this that makes this site so valuable.
Thanks for posting this. I will check my spare. Guess these are the rivits (for the bad welds) that Machs were being held for late last year. Sorry to hear you had this damege. Definately go back to the dealer. V/R, moodym:THUMBSUP: |

Ron, In case you don't know already, when you use the jack to raise the car be very careful because the jack handle does not have enough clearance away from the car and you can easily scratch the rocker panels.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share this unfortunate occurance. When I get my car back from the dealership this Friday (stripping and repainting my hood) I will definitely check for this. Wow.

A prevous poster is correct, Ford Roadside Service will take care of you, bring you gas, tow you, whatever, all at no cost.
Why do you need AAA when you have this for the length of the warranty? |

I just checked my car and tire is fine and I don't have any of the
rivets as your photo shows. What do they support under the car? Oval rubber gasket can be removed to let water out if needed. Is you car original or did someone add something to underside ? Are we sure we should blame Ford for this? Steve :HALLOW: |

Checking rivets
I'm not sure what the rivets are for yet as I haven't had a chance to get under the car this week.
I'll post another message after I have a chance to check it out. Ron
