Burning Oil?

dropped in a rebuilt motor a few months ago and it seems to be burning about a quart each oil change sometimes a little bit more is that normal with the machs? didnt seem to really notice that with the last engine

Re: Burning Oil?

i think the owners manual states that they consider using 1 quart between oil changes normal consumption and wont do anything about it. if its more than that you may have a case. Kind of silly but make sure its not dripping at the oil filter at all. Ive always just tightened my oil filters by hand with a 1/4 turn with a filter wrench but for some reason it would still drip a tiny bit and ended up being about a quart between changes

Re: Burning Oil?

I believe the 4vs are notorious for this...at least that's what the Ford tech said when I spun a rod bearing on my original motor.

I usually have to add a little about every 1000 miles or 3-4 gas fill ups on my rebuild as well. I think it also depends on how hard you drive it as well.

Re: Burning Oil?

Mine may drop 1/4 qt between 5,000 mile oil changes with regular driving. It will use about 3/4 qt in 2,500 miles if there are 3 track weekends totaling about 12 hours of track time thrown in the mix.

Re: Burning Oil?

if its under any kind of warranty i would just monitor the oil usage more closely and find out what they consider normal
