Re: hail damage

That stinks. My Mach 1 usually is spared from hail (garage), but my other car is always at risk. I hate hail!

Good luck getting it fixed

Re: hail damage

Get the car fixed by a paintless dent repair company. I had hail damage worse on my car, and had it fixed for a very reasonable price, and there was no painting involved. None of the hail damage was visible after the repair. Sadly, a hurricane (Gustav) showed up a few months later, a rendered all of that work moot.

Re: hail damage

After reading this, I immediately went online and ordered a custom car cover (Covercraft) for my new 2011 GTI. I got the one with maximum hail protection. I don't like using them, but the peace of mind of having it on when very severe thunderstorms come through the area is worth it.

I had a covercraft cover on the car. There is just nothing to help when it's softball size. Lol

Re: hail damage

Is hail common this time of year in your area or was it more of a freak storm? That really sucks about the dame but at least it can be fixed.

Re: hail damage

My neighbor had his 427R badly hail damaged in the October 5th hailstorm here in Phoenix. It was at the performance shop waiting it's turn on the dyno.

He figured since the paint wasn't going to be original anymore (It's only original once), he'd take the opportunity to do something different.

After six months of work the car is unbelievable! It's still blue but instead of white tape stripes and graphics, he had the graphics done in black carbon fiber laid under the clear. The car is going to be the pilot episode in a new car show called Hellfire auto body or something like that. They filmed the project from start to finish.

Since your's may well be a complete repaint be creative. No matter how original it may look after repainting it still won't be a survivor car. Lay down the paint scheme of your dreams (Maybe the same color but with a pearl?)

Re: hail damage

I've had hail at my house five times in the past two months. First hail storm was the worst, I had seven fairly large dents (six on roof and one on left fender). I had a local paintless dent repair company fix it. He did it the next morning, and the work was excellent and reasonably priced. After the second hail storm, I decided to get a carport, since my car is always at home in the evenings when we have our storms.

Re: hail damage

Don't look as bad as what we had a few weeks ago....2 inch diameter (some bigger) blowing out back windows and breaking off mirrors. Some of the dents were deep enough to break the paint. Most of the estimates I've seen on some of the worst cars were around $7-$8k. If you don't have a ton of them PDR is the way to go.
