what tires?
I just picked up a used set of 03-04 termi reps, 17x9/10.5 and need to buy some tires. I was going to buy some nitto 555's but heard that after a year they become garbage and dont hold up in a turn well, im not a hard core road-racer but do enjoy spirited driving on backroads as well as the daily stoplight encounter. Any recommendations on tires? Looking for 275/40-17s and 315/35-17s

Re: what tires?
How many miles do you want out of the tires?
Rank the most important factors you want in the tire (treadwear, traction, turning, wet performance)

Re: what tires?
Im looking for a decent all-around tire, id say
-traction -turning -treadwear -wet performance Im not expecting miracle tires that have the best of everything, just id hate to have to buy tires every year, especially if theyre kinda pricey. I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my stock wheels and love them, good life and good performance all around, they dont make them in a 315 tho. The rears currently have sumitomos 315's (almost bald tho) and they are awful, at 30psi they spin more than my Michelin all season 275's do at 40psi.

Re: what tires?
Have you looked into Goodyear Eagle Gs-D3? I love those. Great all around tire and they look awesome as well.

Re: what tires?
Just FYI Guys... I was just on the phone with Steve at tire rack because I
ordered a new pair of GS-D3's in 315/35-17 and they have been on back order for over a year. Time to find something else....

Re: what tires?
GS D3 are probably gonna start going away actually I susspect. When the goodyear supercar2 tires came out, I checked GS D3 sizes for c5's and almost none were made anymore. I suspect they expect the supercar2 to replace them(despite the huge price difference).
Far as really good tires, PS2's, NT05, NT01, and a couple different of toyo's are pretty good tires. |

Re: what tires?
With treadwear and price as a factor, I like my Firestone wide oval Indy 500s better than my NT05s and NT555s. If I drove my car rarely, I'd be running the Toyo R888s. Probably the baddest tire I've seen, and I was surprised by treadwear. They outlasted the NT05s by a longshot

Re: what tires?
I've been through so many tires its unbelievable. I'll name a few that I can remember.
Nitto 555 (absolute shlt) General exclaim UHP (good DD tire overall for the price) Goodyear GS-d3 (looked cool but would not stick in a straight line and wore out quickly) Hankook v12 Evo (another great all around tire) Riken.raptor (another piece of shlt) And the latest and my favorite out of all is the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta. You can order them from AFS and get them in a 315 too.

Re: what tires?
This is just me but i love the 555r's they grip great and they will last if you dont do burnouts on them. I had a set for like 3 years. they grip good enough to keep you from spinning out and that keeps them from getting woreout

I've had the following on the rear:
BFG KDW II - ok tire but won't buy again. Traction isn't that great but lasted a while. Lots of road noise. 555r - gripped good but very poor in the turns. Only lasted me 6 months and I don't dd the car...death in the rain. Nt05 - not as good grip as the 555r but pretty good and lasted me almost 2 yrs. much better in the turns. R888 - best effing tire I've ever had. Awesome in the corners, best grip I've ever had, acceptable rain traction. Nt01 - I use these for autox. Definitely a competition only tire - don't get these for regular driving. The r888 probably even outperforms this tire on the track anyways...just costs more too.

Re: what tires?
Bridgestone Potenza
Great tire, they wear good, take abuse, and have great dry and wet traction. Only down side is they don't like cold pavement. When the temperature drops below freezing you have to be careful how hard you push the car.

Re: what tires?
I think im leaning towards either the NT05's or the R888's. Only thing im still looking into is how they are in the wet. The car is my daily driver so it inevitably will encounter rain and some standing water on the road. Im not concerned about cold weather because I still have the Michelins on the stock wheels for winter.

Re: what tires?
They're made in Holland so they might be waiting too. Its worth calling again until you get a set. F the customer service, sometimes you do what you have to do to get what you need.

Re: what tires?
You won't be disappointed with the NT05s. I have just a couple hundred miles on mine, but I absolutely love them, especially compared to the Sumis that I had been running. Even in the rain, these NT05s are not scary at all - in fact, I'm more confident with these Nittos in the rain than I was with those garbage Sumis.

Re: what tires?
I personally love my kdw's, im only running 275's in the back, love them, seem to hook up pretty good, although im still close to stock. Have no worries in the rain at all.
