Who's using stock shocks/struts with lowering springs?

Thinking of just swapping springs, more than likely going with a set of H&R. Since the car has less than 20,000 miles i don't think i want to swap out the shocks/struts. Who has done this, and how is the ride, etc?

Also, anyone put in springs without aftermarket cc plates? Is there enough adjustment with the stock setup?

Re: Who's using stock shocks/struts with lowering springs?

Yeah. I've got a complete, new in box MM starter box kit for 90-93. As soon as it sells i'm planning on the same kit for the Mach but with the SS springs.

Was just curious if just swapping in springs alone would be a good idea.

Re: Who's using stock shocks/struts with lowering springs?

Im running the stock tokico's on my mach with some maximum motorsports cc plates and eibach lowering springs and mine rides pretty smooth as for the cc plates the maximum ccs give you a ton of adjustability which is great for running lowering springs

Re: Who's using stock shocks/struts with lowering springs?

I had Eibachs in the front (no isos) and the stock springs in the rear.....car was lowered a good 2"s or so and blew out the struts! Later on I picked up some H&R drag/race springs and a set of used Koni yellows from a buddy of mine and it was a night and day difference!! Car doesn't have that near "slammed" look anymore, but at least now I can clear majority of the parking curbs now I say if you're gonna invest your hard earned cash into your car, do it right and do it once! Get a set of struts/shocks that are made for lowering springs, your ride will be a much more comfortable one!

Re: Who's using stock shocks/struts with lowering springs?

i ran for alittle while H&R supersports with stockers and once i switched to diff ones the ride was better
i would say you can do it, but when ever its in your budget i would switch to a shocks/struts to what would work better with those springs

I ran the H&R SS for about 4 months before i blew the stock shocks. The ride sucked and it sucked at the track. Went back to stock springs with kyb adjustables.

Don't want to damage these. I'll be putting in some Bilsteins, mm cc plates along with the H&R's.

Re: Who's using stock shocks/struts with lowering springs?

What is your goal with the car? Just look good and drive around and to car shows? or do you take it to the drag strip? If you drag the car at all you are really hurting yourself with the H&R SS springs. If not then the Bilsteins will work good for you.

My plan was to go with Ebiahs and stock shocks ... Sounds like they blow out..

I had that on my first mach.. No issues

Re: Who's using stock shocks/struts with lowering springs?

I'm running the H&R SS springs w/ MM bumpsteer and MM cc plates and the stock shocks/struts. The stockers really don't do the best job coping with the higher spring rates. Its not awful, but its definately something I would not recommend running. If you go over any large bumps like railroad tracks even at realtively low speeds (always do) the rear tends to bottom out. I plan on going to MM Bilstein HD's in the spring.

So can you get away with it? Yes. Will it ride alright? For the most part it is ok, not the best. You will also wear out the shocks/struts very quickly. Would I recommend upgrading shocks/struts with lowering springs? Absolutely.

if your wanting to run Eibach pro kit the stock shocks/struts last way longer with them than H&R just from the drop. the best thing to do is find out what shock/strut will work well with the spring your running and like said above what you are wanting your car to do. everyone is diff, that is why there are so many diff set up's people have

H&R supersports when i was running them wasn't the best at the track, more for looks, i'm curious to see how the Eibach Pro Kit i have on there now does, it feels better already just driving around. more stable IMO

Re: Who's using stock shocks/struts with lowering springs?

I was going to do the same, install eibach pro kit with stock struts/shocks. Anyone have any experience with the tokico hp blue struts/shocks or are they the same as the stock mach tokicos?

Good question MachRon. Are our stock Tokicos similar to the new Blue Tokico struts and shocks? Anybody know?

Re: Who's using stock shocks/struts with lowering springs?

I am currently ...Eibach Sportlines with no isos and Steeda HD CC plates. I certainly don't recommend it. Upgrade the shocks struts if you drive the car often. I put MAYBE 100 miles on it the past two months, lol
