tranny tailshaft leak and vibration

so i've noticed a slight leak from my tailshaft so i'll be replacing the seal when i get a chance. the other issue that has me more worried is that while cruising on the freeway when the car is NOT under load i feel a vibration. its not from the exhaust, this is a new vibration i've noticed recently when letting off of the gas. just wondering if anyone has had this happen or knows what it could be.

I was thinking maybe the tailshaft bearing but idk how hard it is to replace or if that requires a tranny rebuild.

Re: tranny tailshaft leak and vibration

Do you feel it in the seat or in the steering wheel?

Is it speed related or rpm related?

Clutch engaged or disengaged?

Have you changed the cars setup in anyway recently?

Re: tranny tailshaft leak and vibration

i feel the vibration in the seat when letting off the gas. seems like it happens above 55-60mph and with the clutch engaged and disengaged. no changes to the car recently. except for new tires, but that was about a month ago and this started about a week ago

Re: tranny tailshaft leak and vibration

More than likely somewhere in the driveline by how you describe it.

Could be u-joints, ring/pinion, driveshaft to pinion gear angle could be off.

How many miles are on the car and how is it used?

Re: tranny tailshaft leak and vibration

my car has ~82,000 miles. its my daily driver. its bumpy coming into work but im usually only driving around 10-15mph on the way in. havn't been to the track in a couple years and it don't auto-cross. it currently sits lower in the rear because of my sound system but that is coming out this weekend or next.

would bad u-joints only cause a noticable vibration at hwy speeds or at all speeds?
