Low power??

Good Afternoon,

My bone stock 2003 Mach 1 w/5-speed recently dynoed at 262 RWHP and 292 RWTQ. The dyno operator said those were net numbers and not gross (whatever that means).

From what I seem to read here, that is a little low even for a stock Mach.

Did any other 5-speed owners have similar runs prior to any modifications, or would my car seem low on power to you?

The Dyno operator also said the car was running extremely rich and that I would pick up some power if I leaned out the mixture.

Thanks. V/R, Moodym

Re: Low power??

May be a little low, but what kind of dyno was it? If it was a Mustang dyno then those may be pretty good numbers. Sounds like it's time for mods and a dyno tune. JLT rai, O/R x and tune would do wonders.

Re: Low power??

An exhaust upgrade and a tune would pick up some power. However, there is no reason to change the factory intake to an aftermarket like a JLT, K&N or any other. The power upgrades will come in the tune. The CAI/RAI will do nothing but waste your money.

Re: Low power??

I gained 10 hp from a dyno tune. If you are really running way rich, you might see an additional 15 or 20 hp from a tune. That would put you around 280 rwhp which would be pretty normal.

Re: Low power??

270 stock is good. With all the factors to consider, being within 10hp of 270 is fine. I wouldn't be worried.

Re: Low power??

You're in the range stock.
I put down 269hp/281 tq stock. I added a cat-back exhaust, intake spacer and intake, an electric water pump, got it tuned, and put down 302 hp/327 tq.
