Engine is toast.. need advice..
Long story short.. car drained all or most of the oil and I did not notice.. rainy day parked outside at job. Didn't take long for car to start acting funny.. got a ticking from a lifter. Babied it home and got it towed to mechanic the next the day.. Someone I trust. He told me the engine was knocking and it's pretty much toast. I don't know much about this but I apparently need a new motor. Did mention my block was good. I need advice on the quickest/cheapest method to find a new one. He said he could fix it and get me into a used engine for 3500. Is this right? Any help is appreciated.. Thanks in advance.

Re: Engine is toast.. need advice..
I think I would explore a remanufactured motor. I think even the chain stores can get them.

Re: Engine is toast.. need advice..
ive been told ~1500 or so is about right for shop labor to pull and reinstall a motor so then youd be left with whatever the motor costs

Re: Engine is toast.. need advice..
Find an Aviator engine and swap the front covers.
That's the cheapest route. Mach 1 used Engine: $3000 Aviator used engine: $1000-1500 And they are identical longblocks, with the exception of the crankshafts. |

Re: Engine is toast.. need advice..
I had one of my friends run his low on oil and spin the rod bearings. I tried every place for a motor because he only wanted a new or reman with a warranty and could not find any. Ford didnt even make a replacement motor so I ended up sending existing motor to Jasper and they redid motor and gave him 3 year 100k warranty. It costs like 4k to do that.

Re: Engine is toast.. need advice..
Found a place here in Houston called Texon Motors. They want 5k to rebuild motor, replace hoses, oil pump, water pump, etc. They also offer a 35k warranty.. thanks to all those that replied. I got some thinking to do.

car-part.com
engines from Marauders and aviators will work. The most reliable engine you will get is a stock one. |

I would be very careful with a reman engine for an autoparts store. More than likely it will came out of somthing else. If you have a stick it an even bigger deal because I doubt it would have a forged crank.

I'd go with a Coyote crate engine.

Re: Engine is toast.. need advice..
im in the same boat. in September my oil shot all over my drive way. took it to a shop and I have holes in my oil pan, but never was told if the block is still good. gear heads can rebuild it for 2500 IF there are no holes in the block. or should I try to get a crate motor? and actually a ford near me will build one for 4500... or buy one off ebay found one from Michigan with 13k from automatic trans for 2600+ shipping. what do you guys think I should do?
oh and im tight on money |
