oil weight

I was thinking of running a little thicker oil in my mach. I bought it with 77k on it and have always run motorcraft 5w 20 blend. it has 99k on it and would like to go to 10w 30. anyone running that on a stock engine with 100k without problems? it has and always has had sense I had it the engine tick in the #7 cylinder but has not got any worst sense I had it but dont want it to get worst by changing different oil.

Re: oil weight

Penzoil Platinum 5-30 works for me in the Mach and the Mini S. Tried royal purple in the Mach and it was scary . Lots of rattle on start and burn off ,1 qt per 2k miles. I have no usage with Pennzoil.

I use Wix filters because if they can keep a fleet of diesels alive at work then they can do just fine on our motors. We bought a newer 2009 IH bucket truck at my part time job and they sent a bunch of pics of critical things on the chassis and boom. One of them was a pic of the underside of the whole truck and it showed a Fram oil filter on the engine. I told the boss that he shouldn't take delivery of it unless that Fram filter was changed out to an acceptable filter like Wix ,Baldwin or IH . They put a Baldwin on it for the 500 mile delivery drive LOL.

I'm running a 5w50 5w40 blend this oil change. There was a deal on the Castrol synthetic at autozone I couldn't pass up.

I'm running 10-30, I have for the last couple changes. It's running great, oil comes out clean (dark, but no flakes), and no noises. Might be a small decline in MPG (according to Cali), but I daily drive a performance car... mpg was never in the cards...

Re: oil weight

I'm running Royal Purple 5w-20. I tried a change with 5w-30 last summer, but chickened out this year. I'm sure there's no issue with 5w-30, but I just got to reading oil pump failures (not due to oil) and it scared me about the robustness of the Mach oil pumps, so I switched back to the lighter weight. I haven't experienced any issues with RP such as what you mentioned. I generally get the K&N oil filter, but sometimes use the Motorcraft long life one too.

Re: oil weight

10 weight oil is not recommended for these engines due to the lash adjusters requiring oil that is thinner.5-20 is great for excellent fuel mileage but not so much for reducing wear. 5-30 is much better for wear protection but the -40 and -50 will mess with the lash adjusters.

NA, please explain. Do they pump up to the point of keeping the valve off the seat / zero lash. Does it cause more of a problem at low or high rpms? Increase potential for piston to valve interference?

I've seen so many opinions on oil and would really appreciate any details you can give.

I like to do some HPDE track days and keep the engine rev'd up for an extended period of time. What oil would you recommend?

Its worked great so far.
Run it in my lightning and Evo too. Actually a lot of import guys and Shelby owners making big power run it.
