re-installing the hood stripe

Hello all, I removed my hood stripe a while back due to some oxidation looking stuff around it. Anyways, purchased a new oem one and want to have it installed asap.... anyone know the best way to install these without leaving any air bubbles or future peeling?

If it's an OEM one its super easy. The backing paper that it comes on is fit-cut to match the contours of the hood to line it up. Wipe off the area with a microfiber towel and isopropyl alcohol mixed with distilled water. Put some dawn dish soap and distilled water in a bottle sprayer and soak the entire surface of the hood and the sticker. Once you get it aligned on the hood (the soapy water will help you move it around easily), tape it in place with masking tape. Then, use some sort of rubber (or other soft material) squeegee and push the air bubbles from the center out to the sides. Use a needle to poke holes in the backing sheet between the outer pin stripe and main stripe so air can be released through them.

The OEM sticker should have come with instructions essentially outlining what I just wrote.

Re: re-installing the hood stripe

I was too chicken to try to put mine on lol. I had a auto detail shop put mine on. They did window tinting, but it was their first time puting on decals. So they goofed the first time, bought me a replacement decal, then put in on at no charge. They did a great job. There were bubbles underneath for a few days. The sun took car of them quickly. I guess the silution you make to allow it to slide will cause the bubble until it dries underneath.

It's winter here in Indiana, so I waited until April/May before I had mine put on, just to make sure it would set good.

Yeah I'm not a body guy or have ever done vinyl stickers or anything and mine turned out fine on my first attempt. Really not very hard as long as you soap it up like crazy. It'll give you more than enough time to properly locate it on the hood.

Re: re-installing the hood stripe

This is an old post but still relevant so I'm adding a question.

What is the best way to get the old stripe off?

What worked well for me is a hair dryer to warm up the decal so you can pull it off. More heat makes it pliable, but too much and it will break off a piece as you pull. It really worked great though. The left over residue from the sticky stuff came off with isopropyl alcohol. Don't forget that strips your wax off.
