I bought a new battery....

I bought a new battery (Motorcraft BXT 59) yesterday 6 years to the month that I replaced the original battery with which was 6 years to the month also.

I tried to ignore the "gauge sweep" when starting the car and I thought it was just cold weather. But when that happens, it's time for a new battery.

Guess I'm not due another battery until February 2021!

I've never owned a car that I've bought two batteries and two sets of tires for before. Looks like I'll keep the Mach as I still enjoy the ride.

Motorcraft or nothing. I replaced the factor one in my '01 F150 after 10 years bc I figured it was due. Lol

Re: I bought a new battery....

Ron- you may have just purchased an expensive P.O.S battery. 18 months ago I replaced my battery with the motorcrap max from the ford house. About a month ago it died. No gauge sweep warnings. Just dead.

And of course it happened on a Saturday night and I had work the next morning so I had to forfeit what ever warranty was still on it and go buy a new one from vato zone.

Don't know what to tell you other than every manufacturer has defectives. I've had good luck...Vatozone has been junk to me.

Re: I bought a new battery....

My original one lasted until 12/2010 or so and then I went with a Braille compact battery. It lasted 4 years and I'm now on another Braille. I like them - but I also don't daily the car.

Re: I bought a new battery....

I am definitely on borrowed time with my Mach 1 original battery.
Think @ our last house I had the gauge sweep when starting...
Been here since Aug 2012, fired her up on Sunday and watched the gauge sweep when I started.

Guessing it is a matter of time now...

(I'll use that as another reason I am bringing my GT500 to Carlisle)

Re: I bought a new battery....

My stock Motorcraft lasted 8 years. I can't argue with that. So I bought another Motorcraft. From what I've seen, those Braille and Optima batteries don't last worth squat. If your gauges are doing the sweep, your probably lucky if you have afew cranks left in that battery.

Re: I bought a new battery....

Bought the car new Sept. 2003 and got 8.5 years out of it. Went right out and bought another one. I was totally happy with the first one and wanted to keep the original look.

Oh boy, another thread trying to get me to say I'm still on my original battery. Well no way am I saying that I'm still running the original because if I do you know the battery will die soon.

Re: I bought a new battery....

Didn't know that the gauge sweep thing was an indicator of a dying battery. Mine has done it of and on for a while now, guess I better look into a new battery.

Re: I bought a new battery....

You guys are lucky. My experience with old Ford batteries is as follows:

Vehicle starts fine at the house, drive to store, come out and the battery is dead. I've never gotten any warning at all.

Re: I bought a new battery....

Went to get the car E-cheked. Car was siting for about two weeks.. Stated right up. Stopped for gas first and never shut it off. Went to E-check and the self check wasnt working. Which sucks because that thing is sweet! Nobody messes with your car or get it. Just scan the door and plug into the OBD2.. So I had to go into the bay and shut the car off. Well the guy came into the waiting area to say my car wont start. It ran for almost an hour! I was so pissed off.. luckly a buddy was close by jumed it in no time. I got a optima battery for half price at a auto store that was closing.. well that doesnt seem to fit. Agh... I just plan to just get a motorcraft battery in the spring. Since the orignal one made it 10 years!

Re: I bought a new battery....

The original and first replacement gave the gauge sweep before kicking the bucket. The latest one to go just flat gave out with no warning. My second biggest problem with it was that the hold down bolt snapped off in the tray and is impossible to get out without a drill. Still not completely happy with the fix, but have to live with it for now. Spray down the bolt with some PB blaster first. Really.

That's a good idea. My hold down bolt was quite rusty when I pulled it out.
