Maybe i Should Buy Something Else?

Last Saturday I went to my first car show of the year. It was at Georgetown Airport. A B-17, B-25, and a P-51 were on site which I enjoyed seeing them take a couple of flights.

Over 475+ cars there. Trophies to the Top 25 and several speciality awards. I didn't win anything but I didn't expect to. I did notice that I was the only Mustang in the 1999 - 2004 model year, much less being the only Mach 1. I would say a couple of thousand people and only two spoke to me about my car. Plenty of early model years and plenty of 2015+ model Mustangs.

Perhaps I should get on the list for a Mustang Mach-E although I've read that the model year is already sold out.

Must've been a fluke. I got 4 compliments in 2 hours today just driving around. 3 of them in the time it took me to get fuel.

Never buy something solely for the approval of others. I buy for me and me only. If others like my cars then great; if they don’t, doesn’t bother me.

Pick your poison.

I've seen your car, and it is a nice one. Anyone not noticing is the one losing out.

Thumbs up Re: Maybe i Should Buy Something Else?

All I know is I always get a lot of attention at the car shows we have entered. Two years ago won Best in class 1994-2004 at a large local all Fords show. The planets just were not aligned that day for you. These cars are still special and I really don't care if they are not the Latest and the Greatest! Most mixed bag car shows "All Makes and Models" is really about money. If you Love your car that should be enough.

Re: Maybe i Should Buy Something Else?

Speciality cars is where it's at.....
go buy a GT and be like thousands out there....
low production cars like the Bullitt, Mach 1, Terminators, Shelby GT 500, Gt350separate you from the rest.

Keep it and enjoy.

Re: Maybe i Should Buy Something Else?

Exactly,. That's why so many out there take GTs and make Mach 1 or Shelby clones...and not the other way around.

Re: Maybe i Should Buy Something Else?

I actually stopped going to car shows with the car because it never gets attention. It must be a location based thing, maybe? All I know is it gets hardly any attention at car shows. It will get some looks at our local cars and coffee, and that's nice. I think in my location, new edge Mustangs are just not real popular in the show scene. I however, really like the Mach 1's. In some ways, better than the Cobra's. I also prefer limited production run or special models with Mustangs. Not that I dislike GT's, but I'd rather own the special models.

I bought the Mach because I like it and I really don’t care what other people think. If you go buying a car to try to win approval from other people you will never be happy because someone will always have something nicer or newer.

Re: Maybe i Should Buy Something Else?

I really like my car and I'm not looking to get rid of it or anything. I just wish I could spend a little time explaining to someone what my car is really all about.

Guess I just need to be like the "old codgers" that walk up to me and tell me nice car and then spend the next 20 minutes telling me about THEIR car that they have or used to have. If it is a Mustang I'm all in to listen and question. I try to be nice but sometimes I tell them I got to go pee.

Maybe I'm just an "old codger" myself.

Or maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to buy a new car.

HA!
I try to be nice to the "old codgers" because at their age I feel they have earned a certain amount of respect.

But I can't tell you how many of "the younger generation" that I have literally told "I have to go do a thing" and walked away because listening to them say that just because they put an aftermarket shaker on their New Edge Mustang makes it just like my Mach 1 really gives me a headache.

Re: Maybe i Should Buy Something Else?

Car shows are nothing more than a popularity contest like in high school. The more friends you have, the more recognition and awards you get. I have a couple Fox of Mustangs a 67 coupe and the 04Mach, I swear that there is crowd of the older generation that feels like the car hobby started with them and don't care if it dies with them. You can visually see their distain for the newer models. Really kind of sad...

Re: Maybe i Should Buy Something Else?

OP, I was actually thinking about buying another one but AB this time around just for some extra fun, but keep it a 5 speed, or 6 speed manual and no power adders. I'd be good with a coyote or gt350 swap and make as much N/A power as possible. There is a certain amount of pure driving fun with nothing but NA. But that is just my old school coming out in me.

Or, maybe I'll just buy a boat. lol

Re: Maybe i Should Buy Something Else?

I would love to see a Mach with a Coyote or VooDoo powerplant. I think it would be about as perfect a car as their could be.

Re: Maybe i Should Buy Something Else?

While in "solitary confinement" I had nothing else to do except look for a new car on the internet. I looked at new Mustangs for $42k, new Camaros for $43k, and new Chargers for $45k. So I did the logical thing and bought a 2019 pre-owned Corvette for the same money.

Found it in Dallas at a GMC/Buick dealer. It is a 1LT with auto and performance exhaust (NPP) added which adds 5 hp to make it 460hp the same as the GrandSport. It is 1 of 686 Stingrays in Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic (GS7). The paint/ interior is 99.9% perfect.

It fits nicely in the garage with the Mach 1.Now I have two cars to keep me busy. As some of you know I will not do a lot of performance mods to it but it will get plenty of soap suds and wax and TLC on it.

Car was built 5/06/19 and delivered to Durant OK. They sold it at auction to Corvette World Dallas. First owner who lived in the Rockwall area bought it in 8/19. With the Corona incentives he traded it in on a new GMC truck in 3/20. I bought the car 5/19/20.

I'll try not to be a "Corvette snob". The first car I ever bought was a 1972 Targa Blue Corvette so this was on my bucket list.

Congrats Big Ron - that color is awesome! Funny you mentioned your earnest desire not to turn into a Corvette snob. A worthy endeavor, as I never understood why it seems to prevalent in many of those social circles.
