I believe it was an option for 03 cars but was removed as one for the 04 Mach 1.

My dealer said it would be to impossible to fit a flat tire in the trunk with th 1000. I dont care though. He said he could get me a sweet deal on the upgrade.

if a flat wont fit in the back of ours with the 1000, it wouldnt fit in any of them...Its not an option on the cobra either is it?

I think these and the cobras are built in such a small number anyhow, it would be harder to sell em that way..Im sure theres plenty of people that wouldnt wanna pay the money for the 1000, and wouldnt buy the car when thats all they could find. For the money you could do much better on your own..

Get can get the same style boxes for 10" subs im pretty sure. You could get another amp, the boxes and two much nicer subs for the same $1000

the real reason is for the weight difference. youre looking at about another 120 lbs. on the car. keep in mind the GT is more for the look rather that the head on performance. thats why GT usually do 14+ runs. a mach doing 14 would be a disgrace.

I dont think the weight is that ig of a deal, however have you heard the Mach 1000? It is OK for a stock system, but you can get a much better system got the money! Check out your options before you purchase the 1000.

The Mach1000 audio system is not available for the Mach1's or the Cobra's because you cannot remove the spare tire with the amp rack in.

You see the Mach1 and Cobra both have 13in front brakes and the GT's have 11 in front brakes. So the Cobra and Mach1 both have to use a 17in spare tire in order to clear the brake caliper. The gt's use a 15in spare which can be removed with the amp rack installed.

I just poped-in the Mach 1000 head unit in my Mach 1. It gives it a bit more punch to your music when listening. It's a nice upgrade without all the installing of a aftermarket head unit or trying to install the whole Mach 1000 setup.

No thats not true at all. I HAVE the Mach 1000 upgrade on my Mach and the spare tire comes out just fine AND the real tire fits in there as well, I know because I have had a flat since I've gotten the Mach 1000 upgrade. The spare tire thing is an URBAN LEGEND, I have written about it several times on here. Ford didnt offer the Mach 1000 in the Mach 1 to keep the price low.

I am thinking of doing the same.

Is it a direct plug-in? Is it still working OK?

Direct Plug-In, easy install, better head unit, more features, more punch. Buy it at radios and more.com for $525 and they will give you a $300 trade in for your old head unit. Your cost will end up being only $225. They have free overnight shipping and you can get the full Mach 1000 upgrade (subs & amps) there as well for only $950. Thats what I did. Here is the link for anyone that is interested:

Wow $1175 for a stock radio. Those are dealer prices. Well I hope you enjoy. You could have done so much better though.

The reason they don't offer the 1000 on the mach and cobra is because they just don't. All that stuff about flat tires and spare tires is nonsense. My spare comes out just as easy as the spare did on my 03GT. It does not require any extra space becasue it is a couple inches taller.

mach 1000

I bought the mach 1000 upgrade off of ebay. (amps w/rack & 2 10"subs)
The guy didn't include the wire harness that goes to the battery and ground, so I had to get it from Ford. I had a local stereo place install the system for me. When I picked it up from the stereo shop I got in and expected the raw bass to annihilate my eardrums but instead I was kinda dissapointed. Don't get me wrong, for some songs it provides pretty good bass but others like rock music doesn't really hit that well. There isn't any adjustments on the amps, like with aftermarket ones where you can toggle high and low pass filters and that kind of stuff. I read in the owners manual about the head unit and I noticed that on the Mach 1000 head unit there's a button in the upper right hand corner labeled "Mach" and it's supposed to increase the bass that the system produces. Is there any way to do this with the regular Mach 460 6 disc changer head unit?

No there isn't anything you can do short of getting the Mach 1000 unit. You get A LOT more power from the Mach 1000 head unit.

IMO, what the MACH1000 provides for $1000 is more than decent.

For a really clean system, expect to pay around $500 or more for a good 5 channel amp, $250-$350 for a HU with preouts.....and the list goes on. $1000 means 2 completely different things depending on if you are talking Eclipse/Alpine/Focal, or Sony Xplod/Jensen/Pioneer.

It all depends on your expectations, and what you consider "good" equipment.

I agree, I think the reason some people want the Mach 1000 over an aftermarket system is because they want something that "looks factory" and you dont have to splice any wires or anything to install. I'm very satisfied with mine.

That would be me. I used to go aftermarket on all my cars and they were always broken into.

I'd much rather upgrade to something that looks stock - especially since I think the Mach 460 is decent - I'm sure I'd like the Mach 1000 even more.

Question You get A LOT more power from the Mach 1000 head unit

Is there an equalizer built into the Mach 1000 head unit? I saw the one in my owners manual and it looks exactly like mine with the exception of saying Mach 1000 on it and the Mute button in the upper right corner says Mach instead. I thought maybe there was an equalizer for the amps in the menu options or something that lets you tune them. I was just wondering what gives you control over the bass? Is it just that Mach button that boost it??
