Re: Air intake silencer
If you do a search, you'll find there's already been a lot of discussion on this. I played around with mine on and off. I couldn't really tell much difference (seat of the pants). I finally just decided to compromise, and I cut off the snorkel flush with the opening in the fender. I felt that way I was getting a bit of the best of all worlds. I got a little bigger opening for the air and it would still be pulling the cooler air from the fender well. I think it's just a matter of personal preference what you do. You might get a few extra horses if you remove it or cut the snorkel. If you do make a change, I'd recommend disconnecting the battery cables for maybe 30 minutes and then re attaching. That way the computer can re-set based on the new air flow.

Re: Air intake silencer
I cut mine flush with the fenderwall when I put in the K&N - no way for me to gauge the difference (if any) as the traction control kicks in too early (d**m snow tires).

Re: Air intake silencer
I took mine off because I read somewhere it was worth a few hp's. Not enough to notice, but you might have a good idea to cut it off at the fender well. Good idea man. I knew I was on this web site for a reason. Thanks man

Re: Air intake silencer
I actually dyno'd the car before and after I took off the silencer and I actually gained 9rwhp and 10ft lbs of torque. So I say it is worth it.

Re: Air intake silencer
Any horsepower that is free is good in my book. Even if it is only a few ponies.

Re: Air intake silencer
I need not to ******** any one, I was on motor and had a couple bolt-ons, like headers, x-pipe, pulleys, throttlebody, kn filter, stall, etc. I dyno'd at 270 and the shop and a friend there with me gave me advice on taking the silencer off. By doing so I went up to 279rwhp....take it for what it is. Thanks

Re: Air intake silencer
BTW, all motors respond differently so you can't base your assuptions based soley upon the numbers your car has performed or a few other cars. I merely gave my numbers to help in a fellow "machers" decision in theory to the air silencer.

Re: Air intake silencer
Regardless, The topic was not whether or not I gained 9rwhp but if the absence of an air silencer gives your motor additional hp. No need for anyone to get their panties in a twist over it. :LAUGH:J/k But you might be right, there are many factors that could have affected the consistency of the dyno.

Re: Air intake silencer
I think it would gain power. Someone needs to give it a try on the strip to see if it adds power. That is the only real way to test for this type of thing. The shaker hood has been said to only work at like 75-85 mph. YOu would need moving air to tell a difference and on a dyno you are not moving. Just my 2 cents.

Remove it and put a CAI on instead. End of story.

Re: Air intake silencer
I wonder how one of those ram air kits from march would work on our cars. I guess you could place the air inlet in the lower valence between the fog lights above the chin spoiler.

Re: Air intake silencer
Hey marcus do you have a video of your cars exhaust? I am thinking of switching to the MRT H. OH and we have ram air man it is on the shaker hood. I guess it would work on the march kits if you could find a way to keep the shaker fuctional.
