Insurance cost?
I have American Family Insurance. I am 51 years old, no tickets, no accidents, and I'm paying $1730/yr with a $500 deductable?
Does this sound high... maybe I was expecting too much but after all this Mach 1 isn't exactly an exotic like a Pantera or something? It is basically a Mustang and would be repaired exactly like a V6 Mustang would be repaired if it were damaged? I'd like to hear from those of you in a similar age and driving history bracket so I have something to compare to? American Family has always been good to work with, even when my daughter had someone try to run a scam on her with a bogus accident. My wife and I have an umbressa policy, home, rental home, three cars, and both grown daughters are on our policy although they have their own accounts. |

I'm 42 with a clean record and my Mach has the highest premium of any car I have owned. I believe by putting the R code in the vin it gives the insurance companies a definitive way to charge more for this car. I owned a Bullitt in 2001. There was nothing in the vin to tell the specialness of that car and the premium was the same as a normal GT. I pay about $1400.00 per year. I owned a 2003 Honda Accord with a V6 and a six speed and the premium was about $800.00 per year. I am sure the Honda would cost more to repair than any Mustang. The rate must not be based on cost to repair but on wether the car is considered high performance.

36, married, one ticket every 18mos or so, living in Harris County (Houston, Texas area) which is a "high rate" area. I'm paying around $1560/yr w/$500 deduct.
If the wife had known what the insurance would be, I probably could not have talked her into getting it :-) Lee

To 67TBird
Who is your insurance company? Even with tickets on the record your rate is a couple of hunderd cheaper than I'm paying with American Family! |

I feel pretty good about my rate now...
I'm 40 with a clean record. And my Mach insurance is between $1000 and $1100 per year (can't remember the exact number) with a $250 deductible.

Re: American Family
rsnider: I think a lot of premium pricing has to do with geographical location. I'm 59 and have the Mach + 2 other cars + house with Met Life. The total on the 3 cars is $1,200 and change. They quoted me the full coverage on the Mach (by the way, bump the deductible to $1,000. ... that's worth some pretty significant reductions) at $640. per year. You ought to shop around for a quote on the internet. Then take some lower quote information to American Family and ask them to meet or beat the quotes you got. They typically don't want to lose a customer to another insurance carrier. Hope this helps.

TopRacer: yeeeeoooowwww...that hurts even thinking about it! Go to your local high school, get a fake ID from Montana or Iowa, change your age to 50+, tell the insurance co. you have just a regular good-old Mustang and you're on temporary business in New Jersey.
Many moons ago, I had a 76 Trans Am Anniversary that my bride and I garnered 3 speeding tickets each in one year...the insurance folks tripled the rates..bye-bye Trans Am..and I kid you not, we bought a 76 AMC Pacer! Party on Garth! |

Party on Wayne!
I though I was getting stuck badly with $2K/yr. on my insurance, and my record is spotless. I guess there's no chance of finding a company that'll go on a limb for a bunch of really nice people with really cool cars that want insurance at a humane rate?

How did you manage that? I just got my renewal and it was $1,077 for 6 mos. with a clean record! This is getting rough. Too bad we can't get some type of decent group plan. The company I use first had me for a reduction, not realizing what the car was I'm sure, then turned around and did this! Ouch

Lets Name Names!
None of us are giving the most important piece of information... NAMES! Post the name of the insurance company you are using and what state you live in. We should all reply with a simple accell format. State, sex, age, deductable, record, company, annual premium.

I must be lucky
Got insurance on my Mach today....Farm Bureau
Full coverage minus windshield replacement and roadside assistance and $1000 deductible....six monthes for $258.00 I am married, 40, clean record, Indiana. The big saver I have found is the higher deductible....by raising all of my newer vehicles from $500 to $1000 and getting rid of the windshield and roadside crap, saved nearly 1/3 of the cost per year. Only claim I have ever had was for some hail damage nearly 15 years ago on an old pickup I had. Now that I have confessed all this, will probably clobber a school bus going to work tommorrow..... |

I got a piece of typical junk mail from Progressive yesterday. I thought what the heck and called them. I got better coverage and saved about $400.00 per year. I am now paying $544.00 every six months with a $500.00 deductible on collision and $250.00 on comprehensive. They gave me better limits of liability and medical coverage as well as rental coverage and roadside assistance. Progressive might be worth a check.

I own 4 cars with a child that has had their share of accidents I pay $2800.00 a year with my Mach being the highest at around 1200. per year. I have max coverage with 1k deductiable. 3 of 4 has full coverage. Progressive is my insurance company. It's definitely worth the time to get other quotes.

I use Met Life and have a good rate for the Mach...approx. $640 per year with $1/k deduct. I also have 2 other cars and my house with them, but the biggest savings was going to $1,000 deductible instead of $500. or less. And finally, I'm 59 years young, no tickets for 20+ years and one accident (deer hit on my bride's car).
Oh, and living in Toto Land helps compared to major metro areas like Chicago, Dallas, Denver, etc. |

Try Progressive!
I have Progressive and for my mach and an old van I pay $698 every six months. That's with a paid-in-full discount. They are a lot more resonable than some companies. Some companies post the high rates because the simply would rather you go someplace else. I used to have Safeco before I got my Mustange and they wanted close to $2800 a year for the same coverage. I deal with Progress through a local agency which helps with any concerns that I have. Although, I have delt with them directly and that experience was quite pleasant. I hope this helps.
