Vortech Install Complete

Well I finally got off my behind and completed the installation yesterday - Sunday 6-3-07. It sounds good and looks good although, I have not yet taken the Mach for a test drive. I need to get the car licensed and next the front end aligned since during the install I changed stock rubber rack bushings to Steeda poly's. The Mach now has that signature whirrrrrr which sounds kinda cool. Oh yeah, it also needs gas or it ain't going far - emptied tank for pump change. I feel pretty good now about finally finishing and soon I am off to a dyno to see what's what. This also was my excuse for the first oil change. Thanks, Scott

Your going to love te super charger! I hit 92MPH in the 1/8 mile yesterday. I was noticing your 102 trap in the 1/4.

Re: Vortech Install Complete

Update: Following the discovery a massive fuel leak, I removed the fuel tank which was a major PITA as it was just shy of full, I found the pump retainer to tank gasket was not reinstalled correctly. Gasket is now fixed and a new fuel filler pipe to tank o-ring installed. Tank is back on and fuel issues are no more. Added 5 gallons to tank started car and headed towards a nearby Shell. I immediately found that the transmission would not shift outa 1st. Tried moving the selector through all settings - still no upshift. Also I noticed that the speedo is wildly inaccurate. At approx 30-35mph or so the speedo reads about 65. I drove slowly (20-25mph) for the few miles of the trip only reving engine to 3,000 once to see if tranny would up shift. S/C felt very hot - hotter than engine coolant. After returing home I checked nothing only parking car as my weekend has come to a close. Tranny engages promptly into reverse and drive. Any suggestions? Thanks for listening. Scott

Re: Vortech Install Complete

bad tune. The computer controls the transmission shift and speedo correction.

Re: Vortech Install Complete

thanks for the reply; my first thoughts were also on the pcm seeing the crazy speedo settings. i was not aware that the pcm governs trans up-shifts because moving the selector from 1 to 2 provided a shift (prior to the reprogram) but since the pcm reprogram i have 1 speed - low only that the pcm governs shift characteristics...i.e. speed setting, shift firmess, rpm setting at shift point. i do however, plan on calling the peeps at vortech and listening to what they have to say. thanks scott

Their tunes are notoriously bad. Please take it to a reputable tuner before something bad happens.

Re: Vortech Install Complete

Hello all; I called the folks at Vortech. They said the stock wheel and or rear gear sizes must have been altered and that it could not possibly be thier tune that is causing the no shift issue bla bla bla. Prior to the Vortech install I had the stock 3.55:1 re-installed along with the FRPP 31 spline stuff. Vortech did say I could purchase a custom tune either for down load or by a tuner that may have such a tune available that will be compatible with the module they installed on my pcm. I will search out what Diable or others' may have available that I could download and burn to a disk or a floppy and take the car to a local place that can set it up for me. I may even do it my self if I buy that transfer cable from lap top to pcm port. I was happy with the Predator I was using but went with what Vortech said and let them mess with my pcm. Thanks Scott

Re: Vortech Install Complete

I installed the Vortech on my 03 last year. I had no luck with talking to the so called tech. These kids only read back to you from the instructions that you already have. I never got a good answer on any questions, had to figure it out for myself. I am very satisfied with the Vortech's performance. It turned my Mach into a real beast requiring big meat rear tires due to 3k power surge and fish-tailing with stock tires. I have a 5 speed manual so I can't help with auto problems. My advice is to find a good tuner and have him set you up right, forget about any help from Vortech!

Re: Vortech Install Complete

Getting a good tune is absolutely critical for owners of automatics. Be prepared to spend at least 4-5 hours on the dyno for a quality job.

Re: Vortech Install Complete

Vortech S/C ...help.

The belt broke on mine.

Any one here with a Vortech S/C and be able to tell me how to route the new belt and do you have a belt part #?

I have the S/C off the car and need to put it back together.

It is going to be a lot of work...

I'm not a happy camper right now.

for the part # 4fr218-080sq s/c assy. vortech belt part# 2a046-115, gates part#k061115 for v2sq sc-trim assy mach1 '03 std vortech belt part#
2a046-112 gates part# k061120. for vortech part # 4fr218-090sq s/c with after cooler: 2a046-115 = 111.5" belt all from pages x and xi of install book correct belt routing is on page 17. you can down load this and print it. if you do not have the capacity to do this some place like a staples or a kinko store can do this for you. i would check the grooves on the s/c pulley to make sure none of them are dinged. you can call vortech at: (805) 247-0226 m-f 8am-4:40 pacific time. good luck. scott

I use to have tons of oil coming out of the air filter.. It was from bad seals and oil was going into the discharge and then the hose the connects from the discharge to the powerpipe was pulling oil from there and right down into the air filter. Needless to say, my supercharger is at vortech right now being rebulit....
