Re: Synchrow

Here's a good read on manual transmissions. I would suggest reading it from the start, but I linked to the part with synchros. It's towards the bottom of the page.

Re: Synchrow

Oh okay, I got it. So what does it mean when people say they need new synchros? How do they fix that? Can that Synchromax transmission fluid help when you get that sound when switching gears?

Re: Synchrow

Synchromax can help, but it depends on how worn your synchros are. If they are shot then no amount of awesome tranny fluid is gonna fix that. You will have to get the tranny rebuilt. At that point you might as well upgrade.

The cheapest thing to do is get the tranny fluid replaced with Royal Purple Synchromax then get a fiore firewall adjuster and clutch quadrant. If that fixes the grinding then you are ok and the synchros arent too worn out. If that doesnt fix the grinding then the tranny is gonna have to be pulled apart.

You like the Royal Purple Synchromax? I had just the regular synthetic RP and it sucked! Couldn't shift for crap. The Synchromax must be different. I think I am going to try some GM Synchromesh next, heard it was the sh!t.

Re: Synchrow

Yeah, I don't think the synchros are messed up then because I just had my transmission rebuilt about a year ago.
