A/C not working after 8-RIB Conversion???

Power Adder specific: Procharger 8-RIB Conversion.

Was curious if anyone else has run across this problem. After the 8-rib conversion was done on my Procharger, the A/C compressor clutch will not engage. It worked perfectly before the conversion.

The clutch was shimmed away from the 8-rib pulley to within Ford specs. The problem is when the compressor tries to engage, the clutch only barely spins and slips. It must have something to do with the fact that the new pulley is wider by a bit more than 2-ribs.

The shims were removed to manually engage the clutch to the pulley and the compressor worked and generated great cold air. It has to be something related to the engagement process.

Curious if any of you 8-rib conversion guys have had this problem?

Re: A/C not working after 8-RIB Conversion???

I used the BGG 8-rib kit and did not shim anything related to the A/C and mine works great. The buyer of your car PM'd me over on SVTP asking if I've had this problem. The only thing that comes to mind is a weird alignment of your blower relative to the rest of the pullies. So are you saying you removed the shims and ran the car on the street and it worked? Or what?

The shims were removed to check that the compressor was working. This manually engaged the clutch and it worked. When the clutch was shimmed per Ford specs, the clutch would not engage. It would spin slowly, then stop spinning. It is either the compressor or the clutch. The alignment of the pulleys in the 8-rib setup is perfect.

When you used the BGG kit, you must have had to take off the clutch to get to the pulley. You will find their is a shim in there between the shaft and the clutch.

Re: A/C not working after 8-RIB Conversion???

If you dont have the proper shim spacing the enguaging plate from the coil windings then it will not work as for the guy who said they dont have a shim ... well needless to say you must havve some sort of shim and it is possable that the orignial shim stuck to the front of the shaft or your compressor would be junk right now.....

Yes, that is in there. I was under the impression there was another shim that came with his kit.
